Global network

Global Network
Patrica MeltonPeace x Peace
Peace X Peace began in 2002 when Patricia Smith Melton, a poet, playwright, film maker, and photographer, gathered six experts in peace and women's rights from around the world to discuss how they might respond as women to the violence of 9/11/2001.  It launched a website and an online news service and began connecting US women with women outside the US, across geographic and cultural divides, via the internet.
The Peace X Peace Global Network is a grassroots community of women around the world who connect directly to one another because they know that what happens to one happens to all. Women connect for friendship, mutual support, and dialogue. They share information, expertise, and experience firsthand, independent of governments, political agendas, and corporate or media spin. The mission of Peace X Peace is to improve the status of women everywhere and to build sustainable peace. Its primary program is the rapidly growing online Global Network. As of December 2007, over 90 nations were represented in that expanding Network  of Circles and individual women. Peace X Peace Circles are dynamic, inclusive, non-hierarchical groups, either formal or informal, that meet on a regular basis to support each other and share an online connection to sisters in another country.
Two years ago I attended an international global healing conference in Bali, Indonesia and met Patricia Smith Melton, as well as Linda Higgins, who presented the mission and heart of Peace X Peace.  I was deeply taken with them and the work in the world that they had undertaken.  Now it has become an interconnected web of women that are powerfully taking action on behalf of peace in the world.  As Lynn Twist says about the Hunger Project - when women are empowered and connect with each other, everything changes.  It is my deep honor to give you this resource.  May it grow so that every woman in the world is touched....and may you consider starting a Peace X Peace Circle yourself! Women for Women International

Women for Women International can not provide direct financial and emotional support to women living on the margins of hope without the backing of a global community of dedicated staff, volunteers, generous donors, supporters and friends.
In 2005 alone, Women for Women International empowered over 30,000 women survivors of war to move toward economic self-sufficiency with our year-long program of direct aid, rights education, job skills training and small business development.  We distributed $9.3 million in direct aid, microcredit loans, and other program services.  Since 1993, Women for Women International has mobilized more than 125,000 women and men in 105 countries worldwide to reach out and support women survivors of war - one woman at a time.
Our supporters contribute resources, time and energy to help to make the future brighter for thousands of women survivors of war. With your ongoing support, Women for Women International will continue to address women's immediate and long-term needs, work to improve their status and opportunities and see what can be done to create a more just and peaceful world.

My "sister", whom I have sponsored over the last several months, resides in the Republic of the Congo and her name is Beatrice. She is the age of my youngest son (29) and has several children she is caring for - hers and relatives.  Living in an area of the world where war, rape, and violence against women has been a daily occurrence, Beatrice is now enrolled in the Women for Women year long program through my sponsorship to empower her in her everyday choices and ability to create financial prosperity for her family and her community.  As I see it this program is making the difference for these women to shift from a life of chaos, pain, and trauma to one of faith in their own ability to create thriving and change for themselves, their families, communities, and countries.  In some villages the men in these women's lives are noticing how they have changed in fundamental ways due to their wives training within the program.  This is not only empowerment for women, but indeed a new partnership for peace, health, and prosperity.  G.A.

Marcia Jaffe
Marcia Jaffe is the founder and president of the Bali Institute for Global Renewal, a new organization that is creating a world learning center that engages multicultural and intergenerational leadership, dialogue, activism and Balinese culture to empower people in their quest to make a difference in the world.  As an entrepreneur, she has been creating and producing conferences, events and gatherings for more than 30 years.  Marcia developed the concept of the Bali Institute in late 2003 so that the world could learn from the Balinese about leadership, community, balance, spirituality and self-reflection.
I had the pleasure of meeting Marcia in Bali, Indonesia in 2006 when I attended the Quest for Global Healing Conference with Desmond Tutu as keynote speaker. As a 60+ WildlyFreeWoman Marcia certainly knows how to live her mission in life fully engaged, touching many lives in a positive and sacred manner. She is an strong advocate for youth, and for women coming into their leadership potential.  Look for her upcoming events and conferences under that link on the ReSource Collective.  They just may change your life - they did mine!  G.A.

The Health Arts and Sciences:
Bridging Nature, Culture, and Healing program is a vibrant low residency Bachelor and Master's program at Goddard College. Learners actively engage in the shared process of restoring health and wholeness to themselves,  people and their communities. At the heart of the program is remembering how to create resilience and sustainability by strengthening participant's vision, voice, and power.  The program also offers Wisdom of the Elders, a travel study program in Mexico.
Suzanne Richman, Director of this program at Goddard College, is simply an amazing woman!  At the core of this program she has midwifed into creation, is ones own health and wholeness.  A few years ago I was blessed to be a participant for a couple of semesters, and also to attend the Wisdom of the Elders travel study program in Mexico.  For women that are at mid-life, Goddard's programs are a perfect way to co-create, with expert advisers, a study program that supports your passions and special interests with only two 1-week residencies in a years time.  The connections with people, other ways of thinking, and cultures different from my own contributed to expanding myself as a person, a leader, and a woman.  It may take some courage to go back to school after 50, but Goddard certainly makes it not only possible, but mind and heart opening!  G.A.

The Women's Media Center
The Women's Media Center strives to make women visible and powerful in the media. From our founding in 2005 by Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinem to our advocacy and media relations work today, we are part of a strong feminist tradition that seeks to hold the media accountable for presenting the world as we know it. Our mission is to assure that women and women's experiences are reflected in the media just as women are present everywhere in the real world; that women are represented as local, national, and global sources for and subjects of the media; and that women media professionals have equal opportunities for employment and advancement.  For more information, please visit www.womensmediacenter.com
This is an amazing, effective, dedicated, and brilliant organization!  To my surprise it was my brother Ron who first turned me on to Women's Media Center.  Now I receive regular releases from them informing me about women globally from a woman's perspective.  Deep reflection often comes after reading a piece from them, and sometimes I am drawn to take action.  You won't find this in the regular newspaper.  Expand your world and your thinking while supporting women's visability, clear authentic expression,  and empowerment!  G.A.

Jane Cull's BookJane Cull
Jane Cull is the Founder and Lead Consultant of Life's Natural Solutions. Since 1994, she has developed a range and depth of expertise based on extensive research into the theories of living systems, the work of world-renowned Chilean Systems Biologists, Dr Humberto Maturana and the late Dr Francisco Varela. She has embodied and expanded on their work to provide an experiential and conceptual understanding of biology, human perception, the circularity of life and how we make the shift to construct a more sustainable world. Jane continues to bring these understandings to life through workshops, seminars and her latest e-book, "The Circularity of Life: An Essential Shift for Sustainability".
Jane came to me through the web of WildlyFreeWomen and I am nothing short of astounded with what she has created!  She lives in Australia and has taken her passion for a sustainable and thriving planet deeply into her consciousness and body, and has spun it out for all of us to live and create within.  I invite each of you to read her latest e-book and live your life out of the awareness which she so clearly brings. This is how shift happens.  G.A.
